About 30 km south of Hammerfest and 25 km from Skaidi lies Kvalsund, a village of about 1000 inhabitants. Kvalsund literally means Whale-Sound and sometimes different types they can be seen in its waters. There have been sightings of the common porpoise, killer whales, humpback whales, finbacks and minke whales.
